And for anyone who appreciates unique accommodations, one of the best ways to stay in the Red River Gorge’s Recreation Area is staying in a treehouse located in the woods, near mountains or rivers, and within the stunning natural beauty of Red River Gorge.

I’ve found 6 of these gorgeous tree houses, with one being completely off-the-grid for the adventure-seeker, and others with modern amenities that make them your little home away from home up in the trees.

Here are 6 Red River Gorge treehouse rentals you need to see:

1. Cloud Dome Treehouse

(Photo from VRBO)

Location: Campton, Kentucky

Price: $447

Book on VRBO

The Cloud Dome Treehouse is part of the Dome Town Village located in Campton, Kentucky. It is one of three treehouses on the property, and it’s the tallest yet smallest. It sleeps 2 and features a queen-size bed, a private kitchenette, a private outdoor deck, and a BBQ grill on the said deck.

The bathroom is located in the communal “Water Dome,” which houses 2 full bathrooms and one wash station. It also has a giant canopy lounge net and an outdoor space for all guests to use.

The Dome Town Village’s three treehouses are suspended in the trees, with the Cloud Dome perched on a hillside. They are all connected to each other by suspension bridges, weaving through the canopy of trees on the property.

It’s a unique experience, like staying in a tent igloo in the middle of the forest. With everything being elevated from the ground, including the suspension bridge that provides access to the domes, you get to wake up and sleep among the trees.

2. Amazonia Treehouse

Features of this treehouse include 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and sleeps 4. It also has a kitchen, air conditioning, a BBQ grill, and a party patio.

Newly constructed in 2022, this treehouse is almost brand new, with beautiful attention to detail as it was hand-built by the owners.

3. The Observatory Treehouse

Location: Stanton, Kentucky

Price: $618

Book on VRBO

This 2-level is called “The Observatory” because of its bedroom loft, featuring glass windows and situated high up in the trees. At night, guests can see the stars from the bed, as there are built-in skylights that frame the night sky.

This treehouse is not for the faint of heart, however, as getting to it requires you to walk up a wandering staircase. It is perched high above the trees, offering breathtaking views, and stairs are the only access to the main structure, and the upper levels. Because of this, guests are reserved for able-bodied individuals, and small kids are not allowed.

Other features include a kitchen, a BBQ grill on the deck, an outdoor space, a hammock lounge on the first level, a wrap-around porch, and floating walkways. If you love staying in a treehouse that’s elevated high, with exclusive access, and has great views, this is for you.

4. Sylvan Float Treehouse

The Sylvan Float Tree House is another 2-level treehouse with great views. It is also situated high up in the trees, floating above the floor of the forest. There are two trees that hold it, which are red oak and hickory. It has one bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a kitchen, and sleeps 2. Kids and pets are allowed, but supervision is required at all times.

On the deck is a relaxing net hammock, making it the perfect place to relax and take a nap in the afternoon, around the tall trees that surround the treehouse. It is also located within a minute's walk from the Daniel Boone National Forest, making it a great base for your Red River Gorge adventures.

5. The Tradewinds Treehouse

(Photo from VRBO)

Location: Stanton, Kentucky

Price: $387

Book on VRBO

For those looking for a large family treehouse, The Tradewinds Treehouse is for you. It has 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and sleeps 8. There are two structures to this treehouse, one housing one of the bedrooms, and one having two of the sleeping areas. This configuration makes it ideal for 2 families to stay or a large group who wants equally private areas.

The two structures are connected via a bridge, and it has a large wrap-around deck, cathedral ceilings, a spa tub, a gym in the property, a full kitchen, air conditioning in both treehouses, an outdoor space for guests, and a sleeping loft for kids.

The bathroom, however, is not located inside the treehouses, but it’s located outside, called a bathhouse. It also has a slide, which kids will absolutely love, an outdoor fire pit, trails within minutes from the property, and breathtaking views of Peregrine Rock.

6. The Bungalow Treehouse

(Photo from Expedia)

Location: Stanton, Kentucky

Price: $199

Book on Expedia

And lastly, this treehouse is for outdoor enthusiasts who want to stay in an off-the-grid treehouse. It doesn’t have electricity, but lanterns are provided for lighting at night. Located in the heart of the Red River Gorge, this treehouse has one bedroom, and 1 bathroom, and sleeps 4.

Pets and kids are allowed, and it has one kitchen, an outdoor space, a BBQ grill, and a full picnic table with chairs. The bathroom is an outhouse with a composting toilet, and the kitchen is located outdoors, as well.

What you’ll find in the treehouse is the sleeping quarters, with one side of the wall being screened-in. This means one side of the structure is open but covered in screen, so you get a full indoor-outdoor living experience.

In terms of activities to do in the area, there's no limit to adventures and sites to explore. This is because the Boone National Forest is only a minute's walk away and you’re located right in the middle of the Red River Gorge Recreation Area.

Red River Gorge treehouse rentals offer something unique for guests. Located in raw natural beauty, some of these tree house rentals offer something different for different travelers.

Whether you want to experience an off-the-grid experience in The Bungalow or a full-family two-structure treehouse experience with the Tradewinds Treehouse, we guarantee you’ll have a great time staying in any of these Red River Gorge treehouse rentals.
